KAISER & KAPTEYN
Kaiser, king, captain. Today, let’s replace the titles with two astronomers: Frederik Kaiser and Jacobus Cornelius Kapteyn (meaning captain in Dutch). These were no army men; instead, both men were astronomers who founded institutions that today allow people to study the universe. Kapteyn passed away exactly 100 years ago, but his influence is still felt all over the Netherlands. Kaiser contributed to the observatory in Leiden. In addition, the two also wrote about the stars and achieved international fame. So Kaiser and Kapteyn can both be called kings of their trade.
